Blender Questions?

24 Mar 2014 16:04 #14491 by Neilson
I want to start making some buildings to start with.

My GF is helping me out with some of the basics, one thing we both have no idea on is, how do you scale models to fit FG correctly?

We can upload .ac to blender ok, but have not tried to export yet in to .ac

The grid on blender is set out in 1mt squares. Models in FG are full size so a 1mt object in blender = a 1mt object in FG

Blender does not, I think, have any set scale, you are just supposed to work with proportions. FG treats one blender 'unit' at 1 meter, but it's difficult to tell just using the grid in Blender, especially as many FG things are much bigger than the grid's default size.

One way you can do it is to make a scale object, so add a cube, hit S to scale and then type in the size you want in meters. You can then align things by eye to the cube. I also tend to fine-scale stuff in a similar way at the very end of the modelling process.

Once you're used to it, Blender is the utter shit :) It's absurdly powerful, and these days, it only really does my head in once every few months...
