Project Aircrane

Been re-working the paints and other elements in this venerable beast. Prompted a bit of discussion on possible further developments if a) there's enough interest and b) we can pull all the skills we need.

Wot I've done....

Redone default livery and added 8 more, including 3 Vietnam era ones. Just have one to touch up.

Finally tracked down and eliminated the shader causing ridiculous shininess in a military aircraft.

Edited out the annoying "shadow" effect.

Result, even in Rembrandt it looks pretty decent.

Now to the ideas, the madness. The following is a total "what if" wish list.

1) Model and develop 2 distinct payload packages - one the Army Med Unit / Tactical Pod and the other the firefighting assembly.

2) Develop a "dangling" FGUK payloads option, to be used for multiple helis. What I am thinking about is something that has the center mass a distance from the aircraft belly, and perhaps being able to feedback to the FDM so that if you sling it about the sky you will die.

3) Develop an animated winch system. There are also 4 auxiliary winches, 2 to a side to accommodate different load configurations.

4) Improve the cockpit instrumentation

Now, not at all expecting everything here, it is a wish list. Question is, how many are interested in the project, and how many can spend some time developing? And remember folks, EVERYONE can contribute a little bit, whether its proofing code or making notes on the FDM or just looking at the model with a fresh eye. Sometimes help is finding that elusive picture that gives the ability to allow accuracy in development.

Thoughts?

It's a very interesting bit of kit and I think anyone with a passion for aviation is at least curious about them - even if you don't like the whirlybirds.

I'd be interested in trying to contribute something, perhaps in the payload category if we can get a good idea of what we want?

I'd like to help too with my little knowledges of how an aircraft/heli is made. ;) If you need something which I can manage to do, just ask me.

Current version I'm working on. Now has PNGs replaced with JPGs, and a bit slimmer. ZIP file options for either PNGs (if you must have them) @ 4096x or Lo-Res JPGs @1024x The default is 4096x JPGs.

All liveries completed.

Q1 - first, who can model? Need a Military tactical pod and firefighting apparatus. Maybe just even a simple container to start.

Next modeling need is to make skids and extra tanks for an arctic variant - used by US Army in Fairbanks AK....

I'm going to start looking at some models with fire suppression systems and see if I can figure them out. Note: modelers - would want a couple of doors cut if possible, also the tube / snorkel for firefighting needs to be flexible.

So, takers for modeling?

Can the the payload models be liv switchable?

How are the payloads shown over mp, is it just code or do the payload models need to be in a certain .ac?

Just want to understand that bit some more, so being seen over MP works nicely :)

Look at the way I did the huey payloads. They are selectable, affect performance and viewable over MP. Same idea used in the cloud version of the Blackhawk.
