Installation on Linux Mint and / or Ubuntu. This is easier and quicker than using the links in the previous post.
At the terminal: $ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get upgrade
$ sudo apt-get install flightgear
Or using the desktop environment, update the computer, then search for flightgear in the Software Manager.
Once installed, go to directory:
usr/share/games/flightgear
And change the flightgear directory and contents permissions to allow you to create and delete files... By default the directory owner is root, change the owner and group to your user name, and apply permissions to enclosed files. This makes life a lot easier when adding aircraft, which once downloaded and unzipped, can just be moved to usr/share/games/flightgear/aircraft.
