Flightnight 28th December: Caribbean Caper

23 Dec 2019 19:59 - 23 Dec 2019 21:12 #44174 by thebroons
The final Flight Night of the year draws closer for our esteemed pilots at FGUK, and it's high time we all had a break, kicked back and relax with drinkies in the sun.

With this in mind, we will be touring the Caribbean island chain from Trinidad all the way to the British Virgin Islands.

We will have a round trip of some 657nm, with a break a little early at Martinique.

Flightplan
TTPP
SP13
SP14
TVSV
TLPC
TFFF - BREAK
TFFR
MON (fix)
TAPA
TNCM
TQPF
TUPJ

Route Manager Route (ZIP)

Altitudes will vary between nap o' the earth to Angels 15.

Comms will be on TeamSpeak, fly time will be @ 8pm UK time.

Aircraft selection will be your choice of EITHER:

a) FGUK Tornado (any variant)
b) FGUK EF2000

IMPORTANT: If you fly anything other than these choices you WILL be IGNORED for the duration of the flight.

See ya there!

EF 2000 for me if I can master it by then and still stream video at the same time.

I wanted folks to re read this as Porcy brought it up:

fguk.uk.tempcloudsite.com/forum/saturday...ssion?start=40#20098

I'll also add that a huge part of FlightNight is about the Live Stream or capturing the Flights (good stuff and bad stuff) for folks who can't be present and as a record of where FlightGear/FGUK and The MP Environment has been, is going, and how it is being used at the highest level.

Please stop "doing your own thing" at FlightNight. Get on the Flight Leader and pay attention to the original plan and to pre flight instructions on weather and speeds and altitudes so that we all stay in relatively close proximity for as much of The Flight as possible. This is not possible if the pre flight was "Border of a High Pressure" (because depending on version some participants may not be able to run Live Weather) and *you* decided you like Live/Bad Weather so you can complain about not being able to see anything while we are trying to land at a destination and not look like a bunch of clowns. And *YOU* can't see because yer doing your own thing and not so much attending FlightNight so much as exploiting it for your own Agenda.

Please stay with the concept of FlightNight as the parameters are well established. We don't type and fly - get on comms. Can't get on comms because you don't have a mic or headset? Let me know and I'll *get* you a mic or headset. Practice with your chosen aircraft as flying something "weird" for the first time at FlightNight makes you look like a joke to serious participants and looks like a mess to folks watching the live stream or later movie. Don't search high and low for the oddest thing you can find and then flying all over the map trying to get it under control or keep up. There are no awards for "Most Awkward Performance".

Please. FlightNight is kinda turning into a cluster and that needs to stop. Please.

And Thank You! :)

So...who's the Expert on the existing EF 2000? I'm flying it well but I'm curious about the "searching" and oscillation on Heading Hold as well as getting lights on...no landing lights?

Thanks in Advance for tutoring!

By that reckoning then, I shall not attend ANY Flight Nights until such time that I can 'get on Voice Comms'.

Even though I have a beautiful Headset AND Microphone, I cannot talk as my PC setup is in the main living room of my 2 bed bungalow. My Wife is with me in the room. When She is out, I use microphone, otherwise, not.
We both work all week and Saturday is our main relaxation time, as we barely see each other Mon-Fri.
She likes to catch up with TV programs she's missed, talking all over it isn't right ?

Sometimes I text chat to get speed, altitude and heading info as I have missed it (invariably when She has spoken to me lol) but most of the time I just listen and correct as necessary.

It's been a pleasure to have had the opportunity to fly with you lot and have always started to look forward to the next Flight Night on Sunday morning, wishing I could lead, with voice comms of course.

I shall have to watch the Live feed to get my fix of FGUK from now on.

Many Thanks,

Porcius

No, No, No - VooDoo you are correct, don't take my post the wrong way please.

Thems are the rules as stated in the 'Planning Your Mission' thread and that is that.

Your passion and thought for FGUK flight nights is amazing, your zeal & zest to obtain the best possible outcome is most admirable. I don't want to ruin that. I will step back from FlightNight until such time that I can abide by the guidelines/rules.

Many Thanks

I think as long as you are able to listen on TS its acceptable. Its the ones who make no effort to even do that are a bit of an issue.

Hello everyone. I was going to try out the Tornado, but I can't get past the splash screen. Here is the (hopefully relevant) output from terminal. I'm using Ubuntu linux. Anyone have any ideas? I guess I could just fly the ef2000, but I might like the Tornado better.

The Nasal script wants this: tornadoF3-yasim.xml
But we have this: tornadof3-yasim.xml

So either there needs to be a capital F or the Nasal
script needs to be edited to the actual case of the
filename.

Hey all - sorry to have missed the questions about the EF2000, I've been on a moor with very sketchy internet and forgot to take my laptop :(

Yeah, the oscillation on heading hold is an issue with the FCS not being recalibrated for some YASIM updates yet. Like, four years or something Sorry :( However, as the FCS keeps the wings where you left them, you shouldn't need heading hold. This works okay with a joystick, I don't know how that would behave with a mouse. Also, as Porcy says, there is a work around using Roll Hold.

If you're using Route Manager, you can use Nav Hold (it's the same as FMS in the standard autopilot) which is a lot more stable.

I'll get onto Teamspeak nice and early tonight - from 1900 GMT/UTC/Zulu - for any tech support anyone needs with the EF2000.

I'm going to give the EF2000 some attention in the new year, so I'll take any feedback from pilots this evening on board. I'm also planning to make a video on how to use the autopilot like a boss from the in-cockpit controls, and implement some more keyboard shortcuts to make operation easier.

Some fixes for the tornado if your feeling brave 1.5hrs before takeoff!

As Timi said most of these are case sensitive problems.

tornadof3-set.xml:
Line 17:
<aero>tornadoF3-yasim</aero>
to
<aero>tornadof3-yasim</aero>

Tornado-F3.xml:
Line 227
<path>Aircraft/tornado/Models/Effects/Afterburner/EJ200-L.xml</path>
to
<path>Aircraft/Tornado/Models/Effects/Afterburner/EJ200-L.xml</path>

Line 238
<path>Aircraft/tornado/Models/Effects/Afterburner/EJ200-R.xml</path>
to
<path>Aircraft/Tornado/Models/Effects/Afterburner/EJ200-R.xml</path>

Tornado-GR4a.xml
Line 321 as above
Line 332

Tornado-IDS.xml
Line 269 as above
Line 280

Tornado/Models/interior-f3.xml:
Line 366
<path>Aircraft/Tornado/Models/Interior/Instruments/common/FuelFlow/FF.xml</path>
to
<path>Aircraft/Tornado/Models/Interior/Instruments/common/Fuelflow/FF.xml</path>

interior-gr4.xml: Line 383 as above

Some of the sounds and other missing files i borrowed from other aircraft.

Good luck.
