FlightNight September 25th: Gary's Madcap Whisky Tour

20 Sep 2021 11:25 - 25 Sep 2021 14:41 #51148 by thebroons
This FlightNight, we'll be indulging Gary's bodalicious palate as we fly to a number of my favorite distilleries in a large pan-Scotland loop from the city of Glasgow to my own fair home city of Edinburgh.

Because Scotland's weather is invariably shite (why else invent whisky?), we'll be brightening it up with Border of a High Pressure. appropriate for the consumption of single malt, weather will be live data.

Aircraft:

Spitfire Vb
Sea Fury
DaVinci Mustang
Hawker "Tiffy" Typhoon

from the FGUK hangar.  Note: changed!

Route Manager route to follow (soon)

RMR - drive.google.com/file/d/16zrym3PULAAza5I...Ol-/view?usp=sharing

Sorry, no map cuz no time.  Make sure you get the RMR, else follow the leader.  A lot of coordinates that are not Fixs, Airports, VOR-DMEs etc.

Any stairway is a stairway to heaven if you’re clumsy enough.
If your shirt isn’t tucked into your pants, your pants are tucked into your shirt.
Your stomach thinks all potatoes are mashed.
Most of the sky is actually below your feet.

I could print out those waypoint names and use it as labels for my shelf. A night of exceptional taste for certain!

Perfect excuse for me to grab a bottle of Laphroaig on the way home tonight. Might even be some left for the Flight on Saturday.......

A flight of my liking.
And I haven't been around for a while due to work, restaurant job is what it is.
But I recently quit, and am now at home nursing a broken rib (I believe about a year ago I was flying with ya with a broken foot...)
Haven't fired up my FG for a very long time, we moved when my foot was broken and then we had a kid... I know, explanations.
I see what i can do.
Recommended aircraft?

Also, was it 8pm Saturday GMT?
5am JST for me being here in the rising sun of Japan.
And at the proper time for my 5 month old to wake up for a drink and a load of mustard for me to clean up.

8pm BST ( GMT +1 ).

Not for me to say, but to go breaking bones every time you want to fly is a bit extreme..............

One has to do what one has to do.
One has not, however, even decades of running all over the world ever heard of BST.
GMT +1 I do understand, however.
It's around Stockholm.

What with the summer time and all that jazz around there, I've forgot.

Same old TeamSpank?

325 KIAS at 5000'?

Will the turboprops do that 'cause I don't think any single warbirds will....

BST - British Summer time. You know, when the rain gets warmer.
Same TS, yes.

Thank you, Stuart

Now my next question is if I can come over with the ol P9.... Because I'm still - looks like - running this from command line and yeah I know where the planes are, but a tiny mustard butt is distracting me and I can't make myself find the folder on Ubuntu.

If everyone is fine, I'll be around with P9. Just wanna fly with ya guys.

Sorry for asking specials.

"Will the turboprops do that 'cause I don't think any single warbirds will...."

Ack.  You're right....so much for my memory on the top end here.  Will change it up to max 300 KIAS @ 2000, with a possibility of abridging the flight to terminate at Dundee if we're running too long.

Testing this AM gives the Spit Vb and the Sea Fury eligibility for the above.  Reasonably sure that the FW and 'Schmitt will fall in here too, altho' haven't tested.

I'm sorry, I have some PC probs and haven't done this for a while....
I hope you give me a slight break. I'll be at the back. If in the air at all.......

First post updated (again) for edits to eligible aircraft.  Four to choose from, all FGUK hangar.
We will be flying reasonably close to the ground, with only a few instances of climbing to get by the bumpy lumps.
Please arrive  and be prepped to go on time - gonna squeeze this route like a lemon!

Also, changing back to live weather, because in my testing it seems that its just right to fly in proper Scottish weather!

Just sent a request to Google Drive for access to the Sea Fury for tonights fly-in.
Looking forward to meeting you all and dealing with low level clag around the Paps of Jura :-)

The public folder sharing permissions have probably been reset - google did say they were doing something maybe a month or 2 ago IIRC

EDIT: all the aircraft in military piston seem to have the share link ok - only thing I can think of is that the share links have changed

Trying to post the share links here just in case:
