Cats are an object assigns as a "Cat" via XML in carries such as the Nimitz.
On the Classic carrier version of the Ark Royal, we have tried a direct transplant of the cat object from the Nimitz to the Ark. Yet on the Ark it has zero power.
Technically any object can be designated as a cat. We tried that too, and it also has zero power.

So when you say it has zero power (I've got too much on my todo list today to try this out myself at this stage), what's the behaviour? Is there an indication that it is working to some extent, but the aircraft doesn't move at all?

You can lock to the cat. On throtteling up and firing the cat, all it does is unlock you and you move under engine thrust only and trundle off the end of the deck.

Theses failed cats led to the creation of the deck lock system for choppers though.

Well, I'm going to have a crack, but as I've said elsewhere, I can't even get basic stuff to work in FG at the moment - whether I'm having really bad luck, or whether it's something to do with running the RC, I don't know. But it's difficult to stay optimistic about anything frankly.

I just put it on my Mac where I do some random development and testing.
It opened up at Keflavik International in Iceland. Seems like a nicely done
airport.

I just installed it on the iMac today - has a minor issue on startup which is already being looked at

I've been regularly testing self compiled 2020.2 builds for a wee bit, so I wasn't expecting any issues

One of my favourites for a medium distance flight from EGOD - great runways for all aircraft in all conditions.

So I just tested starting up on most of the carriers in the launcher (a nice new feature) - look to the right of the location search & you'll see an icon to switch between ships & airports

Tested so far:

Vinson: started ok, was able to launch ok
Truman: started ok, was able to launch ok
Eisenhower (Toulon): started ok, launched ok
Nimitz: started ok: launched ok
Foch: started ok, launched ok
Eisenhower (Norfolk): started on Eisenhower (Toulon)
Clemenceau: wouldn't finish loading scenery (just sat there on loading screen)

Test aircraft is my own version of the Super Etendard (yasim)

Sooo I just installed the Ark Royal R09 into 2020.1.1

It appears in the launcher (yay!) but needs a description

I can startup on it, but the catapult start positions don't seem to line up

I moved to one of the cats, engaged the launchbar (got the message properly) - theres no JBD btw

There was an issue with the launchbar *disengaging* (had the launcher prop up on screen) so I had to re-engage

I disengaged brakes, with flaps down, throttle *off*

I selected Cat launch - & it accelerated me of the ship (not enough power to fly though)

test aircraft was Super Etendard

So something *is* working

EDIT: I did just manage to launch properly from the R09 with the Etendard

So, more power than just the Etendard's own power, but not enough to get airborne?

Also, what's JBD? (Bet I'm gonna kick myself over that)
