Aircraft Carrier Catatpults

So, more power than just the Etendard's own power, but not enough to get airborne?

Also, what's JBD? (Bet I'm gonna kick myself over that)

JBD is the Jet Blast Deflector (behind the cat)

I was able to launch with the SE - it took a few tries to keep the launchbar engaged though

I have been making adjustments to the catapult parking positions on the R09 scenario (locally, not uploaded yet)

I have tested with the following:

Super Etendard (yasim)
F-8E Crusader (jsb)
Sea Vixen (yasim)
F-4N (jsb)
T-2C (jsb)
FJ-3M (jsb)

At the moment I don't think the cats are quite long enough - this diagram here seems to indicate that they go all the way back to the rear rectangle (the position of the later improved JBD I think)

www.seaforces.org/marint/Royal-Navy/Airc...MS-Ark-Royal-007.jpg

Because there are some variations with different aircraft due to where their launchbar/strop locations are vs where the centre of the model is, lengthening the catapult object back would make things easier

Any objections if I do this & upload changes to the cloud? (cat park pos & cat object changes)

I wonder if it might make a difference to the power of the cat too - a longer throw, connected longer, more push?

I can get the Sea Vixen & Skywarrior off the deck so something is working

I'll upload in a bit - need more adjustments to the cat park positions

seavixen was designed to get off without a cat if it had to.

Thats a small deck to hit. Ship looks fantastic though.

Seavixen I have has no arrestor hook or launch bar on it. I'll need to wait for Alex I think.

the one in the public download folder works - it just needs a small change to make it work (and not need to be installed in fgdata/Aircraft):

change in sea-vixen-set.xml
<keyboard include="/../../Input/Keyboard/carrier-bindings.xml">

to
<keyboard include="Input/Keyboard/carrier-bindings.xml">

Hawker Sea Hawk
de Havilland Sea Venom
Fairey Gannet
Westland Wyvern
Grumman Avenger
McDonnell Douglas Phantom FG.1
Blackburn Buccaneer
Supermarine Scimitar
de Havilland Sea Vixen

It definitely has force - I just tested with the FGR2 with engines on idle & it threw the FGR2 off the deck at 60 knots - force yes, but not enough

it appears to be not accelerating all the way

The F-4N gets chucked off the deck with engines at idle at 120kts

There are big differences in the way the force is handled by JSB & YASim

I'm going to experiment some more

The FGAddon YASim A-4 gets correctly accelerated off the deck with engines at idle & brakes off at 120kts - brakes on slows this down to 105 kts!

admittedly it's a small aircraft, but something is working :)

Right - the issue is in the FGR2 itself - just updated my FGR2 from the GDrive to discover it didn't work

I should have a fix out soon - I think i know what it is

Bare in ind thee is a total FGR2 replacement on the cards before you spend time on upgrading the existing one.
